Sounds of Moving Making (2017 ~ 2019).
What does paper sound like? How tactile is the motion of charcoal, of graphite?
In this project, I grasp the materials, close my eyes, and move both my hands simultaneously, without looking. What is expressed through the physical motion and interaction of drawing materials is recorded in the monochrome marks.
The small microphone, in its closeness to the surface action, also records its own materiality: small scrapes and finger brushes become large. Sudden gestures jar or thump the recorder. A moment of stillness allows sounds of the surrounding environment to emerge and take center stage. Each iteration is distinct as I strive to full, embodied presence: listening, marking, every moment anew.
